At Kuponya Innovations we're building sustainable tiny homes using structural insulated panels (SIPs) that can be flat-packed and cost-effectively transported to remote northern communities as complete housing envelopes. We are working with Indigenous communities in the NWT to co-create a housing plan tailored to their unique cultural and environmental conditions to provide affordable, adequate and suitable housing for their families.
We have focused our initial efforts on our Indigenous communities as they are most impacted by climate change with approximately 81% of Indigenous land reserves in Canada at risk of flooding and Indigenous communities at almost 3x the risk of forest fires. In the Northwest Territories alone, 42.7% of households already do not meet at least one of the nationally-accepted housing standards for affordability, adequacy, and suitability. |
